Our project:

In 2022, Grundfos Norway partnered with the Norwegian Church Aid to launch a project, in Bono State, Northeast Nigeria. The aim was to help reduce morbidity and mortality related to waterborne diseases among people residing in internally displaced people (IDP) camps. So far, we have helped secure almost 7,000 people a safe water access, and we strive to continue to support the camps so we can help even more people in need.

Securing safe water to refugees

Nigeria, with its population around 206,140,000 people, is ranked between the top countries in the world with people living without access to safe water and sanitation. This situation is exacerbated by armed conflict, violence, and insecurity which is affecting the country for more than 13 years now, causing continuous massive displacements of populations. Approximately 8.4 million people (21% of women, 58% of children, and 4% of people with disability) in Nigeria are in need of humanitarian aid (HNO 2022). Out of these, 2.2 million are internally displaced which are people on the run at home; 1.5 million are returnees who lack essential services and livelihoods; and 3.9 million are members of communities affected by their hosting of internally displaced people.

Bono State hosts the highest number of IDPs, while also remaining the most conflict-affected state in the Northeast. The strong need for humanitarian aid is part of the reason why we decided to launch a project aiming to help increase the quality of life and livelihood of people located Gwoza and Pulka, IOM & UNCHR new camps, Bono State, Nigeria.
